World Consumer Rights Day 15th March 2005:

“Consumers say NO to GMOs!“


Today, Tuesday the 15th of March 2005
, consumer organisations all over the world celebrate the World Consumer Rights Day. The focus of the day is, notably, “Consumers Say NO to GMOs!”

 

A press release from the Icelandic Consumers´ Association notes that “consumer organisations all over the world use this opportunity to highlight their demands for the labelling of all GM products, introduction of strict safety procedures regarding the handling of GMOs, and immediate action to protect non-GM production against GM contamination.” The ICA press release also  “encourages the public, producers, the authorities and the media to raise the awareness of the risks associated with GMOs.”

 

The Consumers International is the organiser of the World Consumer Rights Day. The CI is campaining to prevent further release of GMOs until strict international law has been put in place and until GMOs have been proven beneficial beyond doubt to consumers, farmers and the environment.
