The Icelandic Environment Association on GMOs:

Warns against further release - Demands stricter regulation

At its 2005 AGM the Icelandic Environment Association - Landvernd - issued a resolution urging the Icelandic government to introduce immediately EU regulation on the labelling and deliberate release of GMOs and products thereof.

The resolution also warns against release of GMOs into the Icelandic environment unless proven scientifically safe for the country´s biosystem.

At the meeting Mr Björgólfur Thorsteinsson took over as the chairman of the organisation. He has made clear his view that increased debate on GMOs should be one of the main priorities of the newly elected board of Landvernd.
