In the latest issue of Neytendablaðið (the Consumers´ Journal, No. 2, 2005), Mr. Jóhannes Gunnarsson, the chairman of the Consumers´ Association of Iceland, proposes that Iceland be declared a GM-free country.
In his article, Mr Gunnarsson criticizes ministers of environment and agriculture for failing to take account of other nations´ experience of using the dangerous GM technology, and denounces licences issued for outdoor GM pharm crop production in Iceland as "adventurism" that is completely at odds with the development throughout Europe.
