Large Majority of Icelanders Opposed to GM Foods

The Icelandic public wants GM food to be labelled

Recent Gallup poll indicates that over 90% of the Icelandic population consider the introduction of the labelling of GM foods necessary. The same poll reveals that 65% are opposed to the production of GM foods.

The Gallup poll suggests that the views of Icelanders on GM food are similar to those of other European nations.

The Consumers Association of Iceland has criticized public authorities for not introducing regulation on labelling of GM foods, which other European nations have set long time ago.

The poll findings are outlined on the homepage of Gallup (www.gallup.is).
