How Sound is the Science Behind GM Food?

HEALTH

GM foods have been created on a bedrock of scientific ‘unknowns’ – or in the absence of fundamental aspects of gene science – how genes are organised and how they function
.  Scientists are far from fully understanding how genes interact with each other, with other gene families, or with the chemical environment of the organism they are part of. They do not fully know how genes function in the original organism – let alone how they will behave when transferred into other organisms.

The development of GM food is a commercial application of a technology, which is neither fully understood nor under complete control. Gene science cannot explain gene behaviour, yet foreign genes are being transferred into food crops with the assumption that food grown from them will be no different to conventional food. (See GM TECHNOLOGY AND GMO’S and GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOOD.)
